New York cannot afford to continue giving subsidies and tax breaks to companies that eliminate jobs in our state. Yet that is exactly the deal telecommunications are getting at our expense.
We support bill A.9809/S.6918, introduced in the New York State Assembly and Senate, to hold corporations accountable for keeping valuable jobs in New York. The bill will bar companies that outsource jobs from receiving grants, loans, tax benefits, contracts and other financial assistance from the State of New York. Meaning, if they outsource taxpayer jobs, they lose out on taxpayer support.
New York has given telecommunications companies like Verizon millions of taxpayer dollars to open and keep call centers within the state. But these companies are taking the money and shipping the jobs overseas anyway.
Tell Albany to STOP rewarding telecommunications companies that ship New York jobs overseas with taxpayer funded subsidies and state contracts.
