Take Action: Here Come the Union Busters

Your brothers and sisters at Piedmont Airlines need your help.

Piedmont, a subsidiary of US Airways, has hired notorious union-busting firm LRI to keep its workers from exercising their right to form a union. LRI has a long history of using every trick in the book to prevent workers from organizing.

Workers shouldn't face interference or coercion when deciding whether to form a union. Piedmont and US Airways should cut ties with LRI and allow their workers to decide for themselves if they want to form a union.

It has come to my attention that one of your company's subsidiaries, Piedmont Airlines, has hired a notorious anti-union firm to prevent its workers from organizing.

This is deeply troubling to me and millions of workers across the country who depend on collective bargaining to protect our jobs and our rights. Your employees have worked hard to make your airline a success, so they should be able to decide for themselves if they want to form a union -- without the outside interference and coercion from a firm like LRI.

Retaining LRI sends a terrible message: that Piedmont and US Airways don't respect workers' rights, and that you'll go to any lengths to prevent your employees from holding a free and fair union election.

Rather than spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on firms like LRI, Piedmont should invest in improving jobs and working conditions. That would help maintain a positive, productive relationship with your employees -- not the adversarial relationship created by hiring LRI.

I strongly urge you to respect your workers' rights by cutting ties with LRI and allowing your employees to decide on their own whether to form a union. The entire labor movement is watching this situation very closely, and we hope to see swift action by your company to stop this union-busting behavior.
